The Seen and Not Heard Earrings
"The Seen and Not Heard Earrings"
"The Seen and Not Heard Earrings," a pair inspired by the silent struggles of women in history. Influenced by the courageous spirit of Mary Wollstonecraft, these earrings tell a story of resilience and empowerment amid societal constraints.
Crafted with ancient artistry, these earrings are meticulously carved from beeswax using 6000-year-old techniques, then cast into sterling silver. They feature a pair of broken vintage cameos, discovered in an antique shop in Lewes, artfully mended with delicate silver leaf through the Japanese art of kintsugi.
The breaks through the mouth area symbolise the historical silence imposed upon women, reflecting their lack of voice during that time.
Mary Wollstonecraft’s influence is deeply woven into the design of these earrings, celebrating her advocacy for women's rights and equality. This design honours her legacy by highlighting the resilience and strength of women throughout history.
Presented in a green and gold gift box, "The Seen and Not Heard Earrings" include a polishing cloth, a jewellery care card for maintenance guidance, and a linen bag for safekeeping.
